Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education – Georgia Academy for the Blind is recruiting for a Food Service Manager. Under general supervision, this position provides support and assistance to the Georgia Academy for the Blind. including support for assessment and treatment for persons with hearing loss. Duties include, but are not limited to: 

Description of Duties

  • Direct the activities of cafeteria workers while also meeting state and division requirements

  • Attend in-service trainings and workshops

  • Supervise food service operations to ensure that food is served in a safe and sanitary environment

  • Complete and submit accurate all required daily, weekly and monthly food service reports according to established deadlines

  • Direct the preparation of food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures

  • Assess the appropriate quantity of food to order, prepare and serve according to projected meal counts

  • Receive and verifyi all deliveries and address unatisfactory products or services

  • Prepare invoices for payment in a timely manner according to established procedures

  • Securie substitute personnel when needed to ensure that food is served appropriately; 

  • Provide regular updates and all supporting nformation to the school administrator according to established procedures

  • Evaluate the performance of other food service staff

  • Provide  instruction, direction and coaching when needed for other food service workers; 

  • Report supply needs in a timely fashion; and 

  • Report any essential repairs for equipment.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Excel, and Word)

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds        

  • ServSafe Culinary Certification, or other certification

  • Ability and willingness to complete the Georgia Department of Education New School Nutrition Director Training within the first year of employment, as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years supervisory institutional food service or closely related experience

  • Associate Degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, Institutional Food Service, or closely related area

  • Georgia Department of Education Training-in-Depth core courses (1–4) Food Services certification

  • Experience using school nutrition management software such as Mosaic, NutriKids, PrimeroEdge, SchoolCafé, LINQ/TITAN, or other comparable K‑12 school nutrition systems

  • Prior school nutrition program experience in a K‑12 setting, including menu planning, inventory management, production records, meal accountability, and/or compliance documentation

  • Working knowledge of USDA School Nutrition Program requirements, including National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) regulations, meal pattern compliance, production records, and administrative review readiness

     

     

    Note: Georgia Department of Education Training-in-Depth core courses (1–4) Food Services certification must be obtained within four years of employment.

High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of supervisory experience in a food service operation at the level of a shift supervisor; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Food Svc Spec 3 (FFT012) or position equivalent.
