Internship Overview

 

Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Environmental Protection Division (EPD), is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support the agency’s IT operations. This paid, 16-week summer internship offers valuable hands-on experience in technical support, project coordination, and SharePoint site development within a dynamic state agency committed to environmental protection and sustainability.

 

Position Summary:

The intern will play a dual role in providing front-line technical support to EPD staff and contributing to the design and implementation of SharePoint Hub Sites. This role is ideal for individuals seeking experience in IT support, Microsoft 365 services, and enterprise-level collaboration tools. The summer internship will begin on June 2, 2025.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

·       Technical Support:

o   Serve as the initial point of contact for EPD staff requesting IT assistance.

o   Provide support for Microsoft 365 applications, focusing on user access, security, and functionality.

o   Assist with hardware and software configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting.

o   Monitor and maintain system performance, proactively addressing issues.

 

  • SharePoint Hub Site Design Project:

o   Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements for Agency and Branch-specific SharePoint Hub Sites.

o   Design, build, and implement SharePoint sites that enhance organizational collaboration and information sharing.

o   Customize SharePoint features, workflows, and libraries to align with departmental needs.

o   Provide end-user training and support to promote effective adoption of the platform.

 

  • General IT Support:
    • Assist with Active Directory administration, including user account management and group assignments.
    • Participate in cybersecurity initiatives and IT-related projects.
    • Create and update documentation for IT processes, procedures, and project progress.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge in use of Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint Online.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory user management.
  • Basic understanding of PowerShell scripting (preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to IT and project-based tasks.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework or experience in IT support, system administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with SharePoint design and customization.
  • Basic knowledge of IT security principles and practices.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift and move standard IT equipment (up to 50 pounds).

Location:
This internship is a hybrid-based opportunity with on-premise support responsibilities, located at the Georgia DNR Environmental Protection Division offices in downtown Atlanta, GA.
