OUR MISSION

The mission of the Georgia Student Finance Commission is to promote and increase access to education beyond high school for Georgians. To achieve this mission the commission administers state and lottery-funded student financial aid programs including the HOPE Scholarship and HOPE Grant and provides college planning and other educational services to more than 2 million Georgians through GAfutures.org. The commission seeks to improve its own operations and inform policymakers and other stakeholders through analysis, interpretation and publication of information using the extensive data collected in support of its programs.

DESCRIPTION

Under minimal supervision and working with a high degree of complexity, this position conducts analyses of data from multiple large databases to produce reports, data visualizations, and information designed to improve the effectiveness of education policy and operations of the Georgia Student Finance Commission and its partners.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Lead the development of data visualizations and reports.

·         Lead the development of database programming to prepare data from multiple data sources to load into the data visualization and reporting system.

·         Lead database programming for ad hoc data reporting needs.

·         Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of database structures to support the agency’s analysis and reporting functions.

·         Provide information and training on the use of the agency’s reporting system and its data visualizations and reports.

·         Produce and maintain technical and user documentation for the agency’s reporting system and its data visualizations and reports.

·         Use knowledge of data and data sets to identify and report internal process errors and process improvements to program administrators;

·         Produce reports and analyses for internal consumption to support evaluation and improvement of GSFC programs;

·         Provide forecasts and projections in support of program financial planning and budgeting;

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following standards express the background of education and experience as evidence of an applicant’s ability to qualify for the position. Any combination of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may qualify an applicant for this specific position.

 

·         Bachelor's degree in business or related degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of professional job-related work experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Fiscal Policy Analyst 1 (FIP080) or position equivalent.

·         Comprehensive experience with data analysis, data visualization, data interpretation, and report development.

·         Demonstrated data visualization development / programming skills.

·         Demonstrated programming skills in SQL.

·         Demonstrated programming skills in Python.

·         Ability to coordinate multiple projects at the same time.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         More than three years comprehensive experience with data analysis, visualization, and interpretation; or, an advanced degree in data, information, or social sciences and a minimum of two years comprehensive experience with data analysis, visualization, and interpretation.

·         Strong preference for demonstrated SAS programming / development skills.

·         Preference for experience with Python or other programming language.

·         Knowledge of higher education issues and data structures utilized for institutional comparisons. Familiarity with college financial aid, admissions, and data reporting.
