JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, provides professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic. May also serve in a lead role.

 

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under broad direction, assists the Foreman with supervising a crew performing routine maintenance activities on the state route system. Assists the Foreman to provide training for lower level employees concerning safety procedures and preventive maintenance techniques on equipment. Assists the Foreman with the enforcement and compliance of all required policies and procedures. Assists the Foreman with the coordinating, planning, and directing all activities of a routine maintenance crew to accomplish the tasks assigned by supervision or management. Maintains a positive working relationship with the traveling public. Assists the Foreman with evaluating personnel performance, provides feedback and counseling for professional growth as necessary. Assists the Foreman with providing accuracy and completion of all monthly or semi-monthly required documents, forms and reports. Assists the Foreman with the operation of all assigned equipment to help accomplish the work. Assists the Foreman with performing regular inspections of state routes and rights-of-way throughout an assigned area for maintenance and safety needs. Assists the Foreman with facilitating team/crew response to emergencies on the assigned area state route system.

 

NOTE: Based on operation requirements such as brine transport and on-call emergencies, possession of a Class A CDL may be preferred for some positions.  At the discretion of the hiring manager, he/she reserves the right to interview only those who meet this criteria in addition to the minimum qualifications.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

 

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

          High school diploma or GED AND 18 months of experience at position equivalent.

 

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

          Three years Minimum of proven/qualified industry experience with roadway maintenance or construction

          Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License

          Successful completion of MSD Level 1-4.

          Thorough knowledge of maintenance activities in area of assignment

          Proven experience and working knowledge with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

OR

 

(External candidates)

          Three years of experience performing roadway maintenance.

          In lieu of MSD, applicant must possess:

- Certified Flagger in Temporary Traffic Control procedures.

- Experience implementing Temporary Traffic Control procedures per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Part 6.

- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B minimum).

- Experience with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

- Extensive experience operating and performing preventive maintenance on maintenance equipment such as backhoes, farm tractors, forklifts, rubber-tired loaders, etc.

- Experience gathering necessary data such as work location, labor, equipment, and materials to document completed work.

          Demonstrated ability to successfully provide leadership and training to lower level employees

          Current flagger training and proven experience and working knowledge in traffic control procedures and installation

          Demonstrated ability to successfully implement the daily operations of a routine maintenance crew in the successful completion of work assignments

          Demonstrated competencies in managing work activities without direct supervision, working independently, and being self-motivated

          Demonstrated ability to successfully operate and perform preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment

          Demonstrated competencies in accurately completing forms and reports, reading and understanding preventive maintenance guidelines and other manuals

          Possesses basic math skills used to measure volumes, calculate materials inventory, and complete reports

          Possess the required level of computer skills necessary for this position

          Demonstrated ability to analyze situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution based on facts, rules, etc.

          Demonstrated ability to receive and interpret verbal and written instructions

          Possesses accurate eye-hand coordination

          Ability to adapt to changing situations and work plans

          Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, lifts moderately heavy objects, and walk on different types of terrain and slopes and perform repetitive tasks effectively over a long period of time

          Displays a high standard of work ethics and commitment toward work

          Committed to providing quality customer service

          Possesses a general understanding of the organizational structure of the Department and the working relationship between the Department and its customers

          Demonstrated ability to work well with others in resolving problems

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

          Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A

          Possession of CDL Tanker Endorsement.

          Possession CDL Hazardous Material Endorsement.

          Working knowledge of GAMS/Agile Assets

          Possesses the ability to visualize and assess the required work and determine the amount of materials, manpower, and equipment to satisfactorily complete the job

          Ability to take direction from management and accurately communicate information to subordinates and the general public as necessary

 

 

 

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

 

The interview is just one part of the overall selection process and is not the only criteria used to make the final selection.  In addition to the interview, the final selection is based on the applicant’s work history and performance (documented in HR and/or Office files), PeopleSoft/employee status (i.e. rehire code), employee performance reviews, personnel file review (HR & Office Files), criminal background check, employment reference checks (including references and commendations from Managers and other relevant documentation) and, for supervisory positions, demonstrated leadership skills based on past and current work history will be considered.  

 

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
