JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff on a routine maintenance crew. Monitors a crew performing routine maintenance activities on the state route system in his/her assigned area. Provides training to lower level employees in safety procedures and preventive maintenance techniques and also enforces compliance with same.  Responsible for coordinating, planning, and directing all activities of the crew to accomplish the tasks assigned by his/her supervisor. Maintains a positive working relationship with the travelling public. Responsible for the evaluation of personnel performance, and provides feedback and counseling for professional growth. Responsible for the completion of all required monthly/semi-monthly documents, forms and reports. Responsible for the operation of all equipment assigned to the crew also acts as operator as required to assist in the accomplishment of work. Responsible for the performance of regular inspections of state routes and rights of way throughout are of assignment for routine maintenance and safety needs. Facilitates team/crew response to emergencies on the state route system as directed.

NOTE: Based on operation requirements such as brine transport and on-call emergencies, possession of a Class A CDL may be preferred for some positions.  At the discretion of the hiring manager, he/she reserves the right to interview only those who meet this criteria in addition to the minimum qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

         Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR Associate’s degree in a related field OR One year of experience at position equivalent

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

          Four (4) Years Minimum of proven/qualified industry experience with roadway maintenance or construction

          Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License

          Successful completion of MSD Level 1-4.

          One year experience as a lead worker or supervisor

          Extensive work experience and broad knowledge of maintenance activities

          Knowledge and experience in completing forms and reports, reading and understanding preventative maintenance guidelines and the Foreman's Manual

          Training and experience in GAMS/AGILE Assets

          Current flagger training and proven experience and working knowledge in traffic control procedures and installation

          Proven experience and working knowledge with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

          Extensive experience operating and performing preventive maintenance on maintenance equipment such as backhoes, farm tractors, forklifts, rubber-tired loaders, etc

          Proven experience gathering necessary data such as work location, labor, equipment, and materials to document completed work

          Possess the required level of computer skills necessary for this position

          Ability to successfully complete GDOT maintenance and safety procedural training

          Ability to successfully supervise others.

          Ability to assist/teach others by guiding and providing constructive feedback

          Ability to successfully interact with others to influence, motivate, and challenge them

          Demonstrated competencies in managing work activities without direct supervision, working independently, and being self-motivated

          Demonstrated ability to analyze situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a viable solution based on facts, rules, etc

          Proven experience demonstrating basic math skills used to measure volumes, calculate materials inventory, and complete reports

          Demonstrated competency to operate power and hand tools

          Proven experience demonstrating ability to manage material inventories, equipment, and to schedule work assignments

          Committed to providing quality customer service

          Ability to receive and interpret verbal and written instructions

          Demonstrates good public relations and interpersonal skills with internal staff, management, local government officials and general public

          Ability to adapt to changing situations and work plans

          Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

          Ability to lift moderately heavy objects

          Possess accurate eye-hand coordination

          Ability to bend, lift, climb, stand, or walk for long periods of time; exert oneself physically over time

          Ability to perform manual labor

          Ability to be on call 24/7 in the event of emergencies

          Ability to visualize the required work and ascertain what materials and equipment are needed to complete the job

          Possess a general understanding of the organizational structure of the Department and the working relationship between the Department and its customers

          Ability to determine priorities from management and convey information to and from the general public

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

          Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A

          Possession of CDL Tanker Endorsement.

          Possession CDL Hazardous Material Endorsement.

The interview is just one part of the overall selection process and is not the only criteria used to make the final selection.  In addition to the interview, the final selection is based on the applicant’s work history and performance (documented in HR and/or Office files), PeopleSoft/employee status (i.e. rehire code), employee performance reviews, personnel file review (HR & Office Files), criminal background check, employment reference checks (including references and commendations from Managers and other relevant documentation) and, for supervisory positions, demonstrated leadership skills based on past and current work history will be considered.  

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
