The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) is one of Georgia’s four health agencies serving the state’s growing population of almost 10 million people. DCH serves as the lead agency for Medicaid, oversees the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP), and includes Healthcare Facility Regulation, impacting one in four Georgians. Through effective planning, purchasing and oversight, DCH provides access to affordable, quality health care to millions of Georgians, including some of the state’s most vulnerable and under-served populations. Six enterprise offices support the work of the agency’s four program divisions. DCH employees are based in Atlanta, Cordele and across the state.
DCH is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Communications. The Director of Communications under general supervision will report to the Chief of Staff and is responsible for the development and execution of broad communication strategies within, across, and outside of the organization as well as managing the public’s perception of the agency.
This role plans, directs, manages, coordinates, and monitors activities and operations related to developing, recommending, and implementing internal and external communications programs and materials, including management of staff and assigned projects. This individual will closely collaborate with executive team members and leaders in various departments to create communications strategies aimed at informing and engaging the agency and/or public and professionally managing crises and setbacks. This individual will also be expected to build and maintain relationships with media outlets. The Director may serve as the spokesperson and represent the agency at media events, before key government and private sector personnel, and at other public-facing opportunities. The Director leads and supervises a staff of three individuals.
