The Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget (OPB) provides valuable, accurate, and timely information to the Governor and other decision-makers as part of a continuing effort to improve the operation of state government and serve the people of Georgia.

 Georgia Data Analytics Center is a division of Office of Planning and Budget (OPB). GDAC continues to expand its data inventory and plans to build data catalogs, data dictionaries, and glossaries for the public data domains. We are looking for a highly motivated Data Science Intern to join our team and contribute to innovative data products and services. This internship is a great opportunity to learn about government through data.

The Summer 2025 Internship is scheduled to run from May 16th – July 31st, 2025. Graduate interns are generally expected to work approximately 300 total hours over the course of the internship, or 26 – 30 hours per week excluding state holidays. Interns should also be prepared to report in-person to the OPB offices (2 Capitol Square, Atlanta, GA 30334) at least 16-20 hours each week. Dates and hours may be adjusted subject to any requirements of an intern’s academic program.

 

Responsibilities

·         Assist in building data catalogs, data dictionaries, and glossaries.

·         Develop and apply machine learning models to derive insights and predictions.

·         Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover trends and patterns.

·         Support data visualization and reporting efforts to communicate findings.

·         Work closely with data engineers, and business stakeholders.

·         Assist in the documentation of methodologies, processes, and findings.

 

Requirements

·         Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

·         Experience with Python, R, SQL, or other programming languages commonly used in data science.

·         Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Scikit-learn) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).

·         Understanding statistical analysis and data modeling techniques.

·         Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.

·         Excellent communication and analytical skills.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate student majoring in computer science, data science, public health, or economics
  • Currently enrolled with a 3.5 GPA or higher

·         Experience with SQL and working with databases.

·         Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.

·         Previous experience in data science or analytics-related role (academic projects count).

  • Hands-on experience with cloud services is preferred.
  • Prefer Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) data analysis and model training experience.What We Offer:
