OB SUMMARY: Under broad supervision, provide advancedlevel technical support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic.

 

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: : Under general supervision, operates specialized heavy equipment such as cranes and 12 foot wide asphalt grinding machines to complete assigned highway maintenance activities. Coordinates activities with regional personnel, including employees of other county and local governments. Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment. Makes independent decisions regarding the operation and unscheduled maintenance of assigned equipment. Performs a variety of major repairs to assigned equipment on location. Instructs support personnel in the operation and preventive maintenance of specialized equipment. Documents and records maintenance activities in routine reports for supervisory review. May respond to emergency situations effecting the state route system during and after normal working hours.

 

NOTE: Based on operation requirements such as brine transport and on-call emergencies, possession of a Class A CDL may be preferred for some positions.  At the discretion of the hiring manager, he/she reserves the right to interview only those who meet this criteria in addition to the minimum qualifications.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

 

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

          High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience at position equivalent.

 

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

          An extensive knowledge of maintenance activities *or* three years’ experience in the operation of various motorized equipment associated with the construction and maintenance

          Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License

          Successful completion of MSD Level 1-3.

          Demonstrated ability to serve as the primary Equipment Operator in performing Maintenance activities and preventative maintenance on specialty equipment assigned to crew such as motorgraders, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, asphalt pavers, lowboys, etc.

          Demonstrated ability to operate power and hand tools

          Committed to providing quality customer service

          Ability to perform the physical requirement of the position and to work in adverse weather conditions

          Ability to work emergencies outside of normal working hours

          Ability to assist/teach by guiding and providing constructive feedback

          Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing situations and work plans

          Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and varied situations; to work well with others in resolving problems

          Displays a high standard of work ethics and commitment toward work

          Demonstrated ability to analyze situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution based on facts, rules, etc.

          Experience gathering necessary data such as work location, labor, equipment, and materials to document completed work

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

          Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License

          Possession of CDL Tanker Endorsement.

          Possession of CDL Hazardous Material Endorsement.

          Demonstrated ability reading, understanding and completing simple forms and reports

          Ability to read and understand moderately complex material such as foreman's manuals or preventive maintenance guidelines

          Ability to provide leadership and guidance to employees in the operation of equipment and preventive maintenance and train employees in their job responsibilities

          Ability to analyze and interpret situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution

          Ability to set well-defined and realistic goals and monitor progress

          Ability to successfully work and communicate with crew and other agency personnel who interact with the crew; projects a professional image 

 

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

The interview is just one part of the overall selection process and is not the only criteria used to make the final selection.  In addition to the interview, the final selection is based on the applicant’s work history and performance (documented in HR and/or Office files), PeopleSoft/employee status (i.e. rehire code), employee performance reviews, personnel file review (HR & Office Files), criminal background check, employment reference checks (including references and commendations from Managers and other relevant documentation) and, for supervisory positions, demonstrated leadership skills based on past and current work history will be considered.  

 

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
