The Adult Education Department at Gwinnett Technical College is currently accepting applications for a full-time ESL instructor.  This position will provide English instruction to multi-levels of English Language Learners working to improve their competency levels in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. 

 

This job is a 40-hour, full-time benefitted position in the Adult Education Division that reports to the ESL Director.

 

Schedule – Will include Mornings, Afternoons, Evenings and Saturdays dependent on enrollment.  Courses offered in-person and virtually.  Morning classes are from 9:00 – 12:30 PM.  Evening classes are from 6:00 – 9:30 PM.  Afternoon classes are from 1:00 – 4:00 PM.  Saturday classes are from 9:00 – 3:30 PM.  Flexibility is required and schedule can change each semester.  Full time instructors teach 28 hours of classes each week and utilize the remaining 12 hours for testing, registration, orientation, planning and other departmental duties as needed.  Split shifts are required.

 

Salary – $54,080

 

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree. Verifiable experience in online teaching platforms.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master’s Degree or above, preferably with a focus on education; two years teaching experience.  Candidates should have an in-depth knowledge of the subject and possess a strong interest in teaching ESL.  A background in Adult Education, preferably in ESOL, is desired.  The candidate is required to: be highly skilled teaching to different learning styles, effectively manage a multi-level ESL class and be comfortable working with adults from diverse cultures. Experience with Microsoft 365, Blackboard, computer-based testing and data management systems.

 

The candidate must have experience in planning, organizing, and coordinating work and the ability to complete detailed paperwork. He/She must be able to interact with employees, community partners and stakeholders, students and the general public in a tactful and courteous manner. The candidate must possess effective written and oral communication skills and be flexible, responsible, efficient and enthusiastic.

·       Effectively prepares for and instructs class as assigned following pre-defined curriculum.

·       Must be proficient and comfortable with technology and willing to use a variety of instructional methods and techniques. 

·       Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. 

·       Participates in staff development training sessions as required. 

·       Considerable discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive materials is required.

·       Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College.

1.       Candidates must be proficient in teaching English to non-English speakers.  Specific abilities may include:

·       The language processes of reading, writing, and oral communication, literacy techniques to make reading purposeful and meaningful, and questioning and discussion techniques to extend content knowledge acquired from "text."

·       Know and understand the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax for both written and oral contexts.

·       Understand how to communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to accomplish a variety of purposes.

·       Clearly conveys ideas from texts or other supplementary materials.
