Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is responsible for meeting the childcare and early education needs of Georgia's children and their families.  It administers the nationally recognized Georgia's Pre-K Program, licenses childcare centers and home-based childcare, administers Georgia Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) program, federal nutrition programs, and manages Quality Rated, Georgia's community powered childcare rating system.

 

 

Job Description:

Under broad supervision, the Accountant will work in the Accounts Payable section of the Department of Early Care and Learning.  This position will serve as the Department’s Travel Administrator.  Provides support and guidance to agency staff on travel-related expense reports and the use of the state travel software Concur.  Analyzes financial information and programs, identifies financial trends, makes recommendations to management, and prepares a full range of financial reports, including specialized or non-standard reports.

 

Job Responsibilities:

·       Serves as the Accounts Payable Tavel Administrator

·       Approve travel expense reports according to State Travel Policy

·       Conduct New Employee Travel Presentations

·       Process key invoices and enter payments for the Department

·       Properly apply transactions in accordance with the State Chart of Accounts and the Department’s budget tables

·       Electronically file documentation in accordance with Department policies

·       Other duties as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications (HRA):

Bachelor's degree in accounting and two (2) years of professional accounting job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Accountant 2 (FIP021) or equivalent position.

 

DECAL PREFERRED Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications of the following:

·        Two years of demonstrated experience with PeopleSoft accounts payable processing

·        Demonstrated experience with MS Excel, PeopleSoft queries and pivot tables

·        Knowledge or experience with State Travel Policy and TeamWorks Travel system

·        State of Georgia accounting experience

 

Physical Requirements:

·       Requires the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.

·       Requires the ability to speak clearly.

·       Requires the ability to hear in loud, sound-congested environments such as a classroom and understand at normal conversational level.

·       Requires the ability to occasionally continuously stand or walk for long periods of time; regularly requires bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items or materials occasionally of moderate weight up to 30 pounds.

·       Requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.

·       Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification.

·       Requires the ability to exercise judgement, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

·       Requires a full range of hand and finger motion for data entry purposes.
