Technical Instructor, Medical Laboratory Technology
Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans and teaches classroom instruction for credit courses in the School of Allied Health Sciences. Instruction will include both lecture and laboratory activities as well as internet courses. Instructor may serve in the capacity of program chair, and as such will be responsible for maintaining program accreditation and overseeing development and implementation of the curriculum to ensure compliance with NAACLS accreditation standards and institutional policies. Instructor may be required to teach courses during the day, evening, and weekend hours. Also advises and mentors students; manages textbook selection; updates curriculum; and develops instructional materials. The instructor must possess the ability to teach all phases of the Medical Lab Technology and Phlebotomy curricula. The successful candidate may also be required to teach other Health related courses, and will report to Allied Health Sciences school dean. Required qualifications include: Master’s degree or higher from a national or regionally accredited college or university. Must have current and valid ASCP (generalist certification) credential, which must be maintained during employment. The candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the Medical Laboratory profession including the relationship to other professions in the medical field. Three or more years, within the last seven of full-time, in-field work experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician or closely related healthcare positions. Experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels the instructor will be expected to teach. Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and people skills. Three or more years, within the last seven of full-time, in-field work experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician or closely related healthcare position. Three or more years, within the last seven of full-time, in-field work experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician or closely related healthcare position. Additional preferred qualifications include: Biocontainment Lab Services (BLS) certified/BLS Instructor certified (or certified within first ninety days of employment); experience in teaching/advising/mentoring college-level students from diverse backgrounds; experience teaching in postsecondary or technical college education; knowledge of Blackboard learning management system.
