Description
Under the general supervision of the Dean of Public Safety & Legal Studies instructs, advises, and counsels students in the Law Enforcement Academy.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Evaluates and reviews students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Monitors use of supplies, materials, and equipment. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts. Demonstrates and ensures the use of appropriate and effective teaching techniques, testing and grading procedures (including proper maintenance of grades and any other appropriate record-keeping requirements), and oral and written communication skills. Maintains certifications and ensures instructor’s qualifications for employment as described by the Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual and accreditation standards. Follows and enforces rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution.
Applicant must be able to select and assess student learning outcomes, foster effective learning in both classroom and lab settings, and promote good public relations via contacts and regular communications with business, industry, and the public sector.
Minimum Qualifications
Related college coursework, specialized training, or competency gained through work experience, and in good standing, with the State of Georgia as a Peace Officer and POST Instructor certification.
Minimum of Five (5) years’ experience as a Georgia Peace Officer.
Minimum of 600 hours of documented POST training hours.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (prefer CRJU or related) with Licensure (Certification), in good standing with the State of Georgia as a Peace Officer, P.O.S.T. Instructor in the following Specialty Instructor certifications: Defensive Tactics, EVOC and/or Firearms. A candidate possessing a comprehensive knowledge of current instructional techniques and technology and knowledge and experience in teaching. Knowledge of Blackboard and Banner Web is desirable. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Experience in teaching/ mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is also desired.
