This position is located in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) – Watershed Protection Branch (WPB). As Watershed Protection Branch Chief, the successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operations and manage the senior level responsibilities of the Branch. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the following: assist the Director’s Office on special projects as needed and directed; provide leadership on key issues the Branch is working on; work with programs to make progress on key issues; ensure WPB programs resolve non-routine permit-related and compliance-related issues; assist with strategy and planning efforts to continuously improve water management (both quality and quantity); and support interstate coordination and response to interstate concerns in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin and Savannah River Basin.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- A graduate degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering (Agricultural, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Sanitary) or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge or experience with interpreting and applying state and federal regulations.
- Experience with permitting, inspections, compliance, and/or enforcement.
- Demonstrated ability to work with local governments, utilities, industrial facilities, watershed groups, and other stakeholders.
