The Georgia Department of Labor is accepting applications to fill the Sr. Mgr. 2, Accounting & Financial Services position in the General Accounts Unit at the Georgia Department of Labor Headquarters in downtown Atlanta, Ga.

 

Job Summary 

The Snr. Mgr., Accounting & Financial Services plans the direction for accounting and financial operations of the Agency.  Recommends and implements accounting policies and procedures in accordance with government regulations while managing subordinate managers and staff. 

 

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes financial statistics and other accounting data. 

  • Coordinates auditing operations with departmental accounting, budgetary, administrative support, and programmatic function to support the department's mission.  

  • Develops and directs a comprehensive accounting program which integrates Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standards, Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), statutory accounting requirements, and departmental fiscal policies and procedures. 

  • Directs operational analyses of accounting systems, subsystems and /or procedures

  • Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges accounting/financial employees. 

  • Manages human resources and directs administrative activities for accounting/financial employees. 

  • Plans and direct in-depth financial audits and investigations.

  • Provides professional guidance and assistance in the solution of complex accounting and financial problems. 

  • Represents the financial interests of the State in accounting-related interactions/negotiations with other parties, such as banks, vendors and external auditors.

  • Provides leadership to subordinate managers, supervisors and staff. 

 

Preferred Qualification 

  • Knowledge of and experience with the State's financial management system TeamWorks (Peoplesoft) 

  • Knowledge of and experience with Workday financial management system 

  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritize multiple assignments to meet established deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications

  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Bachelor's degree in accounting and five (5) years of professional accounting job-related experience, which includes three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Sr Mgr, Accounting (FIM012) or position equivalent.
