Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) – Atlanta Area School for the Deaf (AASD) is recruiting for an experienced School Administrator. The School Administrator serves as a collaborative member of the core leadership team led by the school-level superintendent in providing a cohesive educational program for students who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. The School Administrator may be assigned to oversee and provide strong leadership in one of two academic domains: Elementary and Middle School; High School and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE).

 Duties include but are not limited to the following:

·        Supervise and evaluate staff assigned to academic domains using the Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES) or e-Performance

·        Provide overall supervision of students to ensure their safety, well-being, and academic progress

·        Provide instructional leadership and assist in leading a learning community

·        Utilize data to make instructional decisions, organizational management planning and activities, and guide school success

·        Develop and implement curriculum to meet educational standards and ensure effective delivery by teachers

·        Support a learning environment based on high expectations and respect for all individuals

·        Assist with the supervision of overall school operations

·        Practice shared decision making as a collaborative member of the core leadership team

·        Serve on the placement/evaluation team for students referred to AASD

·        Organize and lead effective meetings to ensure clear communication, collaboration, and progress towards school goals

·        Conduct regular meetings with department and/or staff to ensure alignment, address concerns, and promote continuous improvement

·        Provide professional growth opportunities for staff and establish mentoring programs based on effective practices

·        Set, support, and sustain a focus on school goals and school-wide student achievement

·        Demonstrate effective communication with teachers, students, parents, families, and the larger community

·        Assist in the selection process of quality teachers and other school employees as assigned

·        Assist in establishing and enforcing school policies to maintain a safe and effective learning environment

·        Handle student discipline to ensure school rules are followed

·        Coordinate school events and extracurricular activities

·        Assist in organizing and managing school resources

·        Assist in maintaining school safety

·        Assist in seeking and allocating fiscal resources

·        Manage conflict and crisis in a timely and professional manner

·        Foster community engagement by building relationships with parents, local businesses, and community organizations

·        Ensure compliance with educational laws and regulations

·        Exhibit professionalism and demonstrate professional standards

 This position reports to the school-Level Superintendent.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be required. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Additional work hours during the week and weekend, including travel that may be assigned to meet the needs of the school and students.

 Note:

Applicants will be expected to exhibit the ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) during the interview with an expectation of obtaining an ASL rating of 3+ or above within three years from date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification possess one or more of the following:

·        Master’s degree in the field of education, administration, public administration, or a related administrative field

·        Certification in Deaf Education

·        Three (3) or more years of teaching students who are Deaf or hard of hearing

·        Experience in implementing Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans

·        Experience working in a school or program serving Deaf and hard-of-hearing students

·        Has a strong understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and how Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans are created and implemented

·        Experience managing school operations (e.g., personnel, facilities, food services, and technology services)

·        Experience implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

·        Experience implementing Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES) or similar teacher evaluation program

·        Experience using assessment data to support student learning outcomes

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language without the use of an interpreter to communicate with staff and/or stakeholders in a one-on-one or group setting
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and L-5 certification and one (1) year of experience in a supervisory/administrative capacity in an educational and/or vocational training program; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Instructor 3 (EDP022) or position equivalent and L-5 certification.
