Job Summary:

Provides leadership and oversight over assigned Department of Juvenile Justice correctional facilities within an assigned region of the state. Provides authority over operations, and guidance to assigned leadership within their assigned region, to ensure that facilities are operated in compliance with relevant laws, regulations and policies. Oversight of regional operations including safety, well-being, and rehabilitation of assigned youth in designated region. Administration of regional reporting and operational analysis in support of leadership decision making, and the effectiveness and improvement of overall regional operations. This position will report to the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Secure Facilities.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultation, technical assistance, guidance and direction to Department of Juvenile Justice Facility Directors and other staff within the assigned region, to address specific needs in all areas including Security, Maintenance, Human Resources and Budget Administration.
  • Support the Deputy Commissioner and Asst. Deputy Commissioner in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and overseeing general operations, policy development, investigations, compliance, and performance management in facilities in the assigned region.
  • Develop and maintain a positive, collaborative, and mutually supportive working relationship, communications, and contacts with other division and departmental staff and others as required. This would include other agencies, legislators, the general public, and all other contacts relative to overall facility operations. This also includes promoting good public relations to build a strong, positive brand.
  • Coordinate, guide and interact with facility, regional and central office staff to ensure that budget estimates are properly prepared and reviewed, include ensuring that expenditures are   tracked,   justified   and   properly   documented   in   accordance   with   department procedures.
  • Coordinate with all required personnel to ensure ongoing recruitment, retention and employee development processes are provided as needed to address the needs of each regional facility.
  • All other duties as requested or assigned for successful performance within the assigned region.

 

Entry Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of directly related experience in a criminal justice or correctional system, three (3) years of which with management experience
  • OR eight (8) of supervisory custodial experience in a criminal justice or correctional system, three (3) years of which at a level equivalent to a manager in a law enforcement setting
  • OR eight (8) years of directly related experience in a criminal justice or correctional system, three (3) years of which experience is required at the lower-level Director, Correctional Admin (PSM084), Director 2, Correctional Admin (PSM085) or position equivalent.


Note: Some positions may require P.O.S.T. certification.
