The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is seeking to identify a qualified candidate to assume the role of Programmer Analyst 2 in the Labor Market Division. This position is located at the GDOL main office in downtown Atlanta, GA.
This job is open to both internal and external candidate.
Essential Function and Responsibilities
Coordinates the collection of timely data from Labor Market Program Managers and external sources (state and federal) and prepares data input into the Workforce Information Database (WID).
Obtains appropriate information from customers to develop solid understanding of customer business requirements, business opportunities and existing capabilities in relation to the Labor Market Information Systems.
Confers with customers to determine functional needs and system requirements. Appropriately assists with developing justification for application software development or enhancement.
Develops specifications which conform with established programming and development standards.
Addresses customer concerns, and inquiries regarding development or enhancement projects according to agency standards.
Writes and debugs Visual Basic/Visual Basic.Net, ASP.Net, Visual C++ programs or program modules, as well as Microsoft Integration Services (SSIS) and Microsoft Report Services (SSRS).
Makes necessary programming changes in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with customer requirements and priorities.
Updates required documentation to accurately reflect changes made to the system.
Adheres to established development and programming standards.
Follows up with users to ensure program conforms to specifications.
Writes documentation in a clear manner and in terminology that will be easily understood by the reader.
Develops user/operations documentation which includes instructions on how to use the software/system as well as descriptions of the system outputs according to established procedures.
Provides background information on applications to enable the user to develop a clear understanding of the application processes and functions
Completes all documentation in a timely manner to assure its availability to users and other technical personnel. Completes weekly /monthly activity and project worklog in a timely manner.
Develops operations documentation which includes instructions on how to execute the applications system, as well as, system recovery procedures according to established guidelines.
Maintains documentation files for assigned programs/systems, ensuring files are well-organized, complete, current and accessible in accordance with applicable standards.
Education and Experience:
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Management, or a related field
Five plus years of related experience
Proficiency in SQL, database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL), PowerBI, and data modeling
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent management and supervisory skills.
Understanding of statistical methods.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Results Orientation.
Ability to initiate change within the organization.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
