Job Summary 

Print Operations & Business Development Manager is a dynamic leadership role that combines operational excellence with business development opportunities. This position oversees the production and delivery of high-quality print materials while driving revenue growth through strategic marketing to external clients. The ideal candidate will manage a 2-3 member print team, ensure exceptional customer service, and actively expand our client base to generate additional departmental revenue.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Processes, tracks, and fulfills all print orders from initiation to delivery with accountability for quality and timeliness.
  • Leads day-to-day print shop operations ensuring superior quality standards, operational efficiency, and consistent deadline adherence.
  • Operates and maintains advanced printing equipment including commercial presses, precision cutters, shrink wrappers, automated folders, booklet makers, and high-volume copiers.
  • Manages sophisticated document workflow systems, including job location in Document Service files and PDF pool management
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance schedules and manage service technician relationships to minimize downtime
  • Approves employee timesheets and leave requests while providing hands-on supervision and mentorship
  • Manages, mentors, and cross-trains print shop staff to build a versatile, high-performing team
  • Prepares comprehensive monthly performance and operational reports for executive review


Financial Management & Procurement

  • Sources and orders all materials and supplies for print projects while optimizing cost-effectiveness.
  • Creates, enters, and manages purchase orders.
  • Reviews, approves, and processes vendor bills for purchasing department with attention to accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develops and manages annual print shop budget with responsibility for profitability and growth targets.
  • Generates accurate and competitively-priced quotes for external work and manage comprehensive billing processes.
  • Negotiates favorable vendor contracts to optimize costs for paper, software, equipment leases, and operational supplies.


Business Development & Marketing

  • Actively markets print shop services to external clients and drives measurable revenue growth targets through strategic sales efforts.
  • Collaborates with Communications Director and Executive Staff to develop and implement strategic plans governing print operations, sales strategy, and business growth initiatives.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with existing clients while continuously developing new business partnerships
  • Identifies emerging market opportunities and provides expert consultation on innovative print solutions.


Required Skills & Abilities

  • Outstanding customer service orientation with meticulous attention to detail and quality standards
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience with ability to motivate and develop team members
  • Proven sales and marketing capabilities with demonstrated track record of successful revenue generation and client acquisition
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present professionally to diverse stakeholders
  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
  • Exceptional multitasking capabilities in deadline-driven operations with competing priorities
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Technical aptitude for equipment operation, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of sophisticated printing systems


 

Education and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, print management or related field and two years of experience in printing operations, sales or business development.  

Preferred Experience

  • Proficient understanding of modern printing press technology, digital printing systems and merging print technologies
  • Offset Litho Printing Press experience, preferred.
  • Business development or sales experience
  • Experience with procurement, vendor management, and contract negotiation
  • Knowledge of quality control processes and industry best practices

High school diploma/GED and six (6) years of professional job-related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Graphics and Visual Art Spec 3 (GSP032).
