Part Time SNAP Outreach Specialist (Grant Funded)
Savannah Technical College is seeking a dynamic part-time SNAP Outreach Specialist to provide outreach and information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), screen students for public benefits programs, process SNAP applications, and assist with the renewal application process. This position is grant funded, and is contingent upon receipt/renewal of funding. This position is part of collaboration between Step Up Savannah and Savannah Technical College. Candidates must display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work assignments, operate effectively within the organizational structure, and demonstrate trustworthiness and responsible behavior. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist student and applicants in applying for and renewing SNAP and other public benefits online through COMPASS system.
- Use EBO software to screen students and applicants for eligibility and to track the number of students and applicants who were screened/assisted with SNAP applications.
- Create and implement a reminder system to ensure individuals renew their account in a timely manner.
- Present informational workshops that will provide knowledge for obtaining SNAP and other public benefits and changes to eligibility for SNAP benefits.
- Design and implement outreach sessions to promote and educate students about the SNAP program.
- Design and implement display booths at resource fairs at Savannah Technical College.
- Provide screening services and outreach sessions on the satellite campuses of Savannah Technical College.
- Keep detailed client files/records, and submit monthly reports to supervisor.
- Assist with the design of outreach materials and track the number of materials distributed.
- Keep documentation, to include photos, printed materials, and sign-in sheets from all workshops, and seminars.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
- This position requires regular travel throughout the Savannah Technical College service delivery area, but primarily serves Chatham, Liberty, and Effingham counties. Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability is required.
- Must be able to attend regular meetings with the Center for Working Families, Public Benefits Workgroup with Georgia Legal Services, and Step Up Savannah annual meetings.
- This position requires strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with stakeholders and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Proficient in the use of technology, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Access; as well as scanning and document imaging software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- One (1) year of experience working with community and neighborhood groups and organizations.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social science, social work, or related field.
Physical Demands
Work is typically performed in a classroom or office environment with intermittent sitting, standing or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes. The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight.
