Paralegal - State Elections Board
The paralegal provides administrative/paralegal support to the State Elections Board. This includes maintaining records (e.g. legislation and case filings) and coordinating meetings for the State Election Board (SEB).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate meetings with SEB members, General Counsel, Elections Division, Investigations Division, and the Attorney General’s office (e.g. prepare notices, agendas, and minutes).
- Communicate with claimants, complainants, respondents, and interested parties with regard to SEB cases.
- Prepare legal orders, correspondence related to or requests for public information, investigations, hearings and reviews.
- Proofreads all typed materials for accuracy, consistency, proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Assured documents subject to the Open Records Act are released appropriately.
- Analyzes data, disclosure documents and disciplinary histories for irregularities and deficiencies.
- Maintains the docket log and produces related statistical data derived from the log.
- Receives complaints, acknowledges and maintains a log respond to all correspondence related to CAB and SEB matters.
- Ensure compliance with the Georgia Open Meetings Act.
- Process civil penalty payments from respondents in SEB cases.
- Process and organize signed legislative bills during and after session, including communicating with the Governor’s Office and the Office of Legislative Counsel.
- Assist in searching, retrieving, and reviewing information responsive to requests made under the Georgia Open Records Act.
- Create and maintain legal files and records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal.
- Must be qualified to become a notary public and become a notary public upon beginning employment.
- High school diploma/equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two or more years of experience as a legal secretary, or paralegal.
- Undergraduate degree from a nationally accredited college or university.
- Paralegal certificate.
