OMAT- (Pit & Quarry) Gainesville TRP050 Transportation Specialist 1 (PG-K) Technical Services Specialist 1
STATE PROFILE SUMMARY:
Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, materials, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Under close supervision, provide working level technical services to Department engineers, material producers, District laboratories and contractor's representatives for testing and materials related matters in assigned area.
· Monitors the quality programs at aggregate producers in assigned area.
· Evaluates materials and construction procedures for Departmental construction projects.
· Monitors and inspects aggregate suppliers and equipment for compliance with specifications, SOP-01 and QPL approval process.
· Certifies laboratory and quality control personnel at all approved aggregate sources within assigned area.
· Reviews aggregate test results for compliance with specifications and consistency in SiteManager/AASHTOWare.
· Prepares and submits daily and monthly inspection reports and monthly audits.
· Prepares written failing material reports and correspondence to supervisors for distribution to Branch Chief, Area Engineers and others recommending actions to be taken.
· Assist in training and certifying supplier's quality control testing technicians and DOT testing personnel in material sampling and testing.
· Requires driving to various supplier facilities including out of State locations for inspection.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree in a related field
· OR Associate's degree in a related field
· OR One year of experience at position equivalent
AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
· One year of experience in materials sampling and testing, policies, and procedures for material acceptance testing and/or material specification requirements.
· A valid Georgia Driver's License is required.
· Ability to read and interpret specifications, plans, contract documents, construction and testing manuals, and other resources.
· Ability to compose and prepare technical reports, and general correspondence.
· Ability to use computers, other technical applications, and testing equipment to analyze and communicate information.
· Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to production and placement of materials, including percentages and formulas.
· Ability to acquire new job knowledge and technical skills and participate in sessions designed to teach, train, and develop co-workers in the application of these skills.
· Possess the stamina to perform testing and inspection procedures for extended periods of time.
· Ability to identify, evaluate and recommend alternative solutions to practical problems.
· Ability to communicate and interact with Georgia DOT personnel and external customers in a
professional manner.
· Committed to providing quality customer service.
· Ability to plan, organize and set priorities for achieving tasks.
AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possess a GDOT Aggregate Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
· Possess a ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1 Certification

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
