JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides working level technical support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under close supervision assists in the bridge inventory and inspection operations for an assigned area. Performs field inspections to gain structural, geographic, and geometric data. Prepares, updates, and maintains written and computerized records of bridge maintenance activities. Responds to requests for technical bridge maintenance assistance. Assists in the collection of supporting data for the bridge management system.
POSITION SPECIFIC:
· This position will be assigned to Topside Bridge Inspection Team 8
· The team’s office is located in Roberta.
· Applicant must live in Area 8, an adjoining county to area 8 or be willing to relocate.
· The team inspects all bridges and bridge culverts in Area 8 consisting of the following 16 counties: Bibb, Chattahoochee, Crawford, Dooly, Harris, Houston, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Peach, Pulaski, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Taylor, and Webster.
· This position may require travel (training and responding to emergencies) for up to a week outside Area 8. All travel expenses (rooms and meals) will be reimbursed.
· This position responds to bridge related emergencies (floods, bridge hits) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will receive a GDOT cell phone.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or GED AND six months of experience at position equivalent.
AGENCY SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possesses a valid Georgia driver's license
· Possesses basic computer skills.
· Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in both standard and metric units.
· Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in both standard and metric units.
· Ability to recall all critical bridge deficiencies verbally to the supervisor and document the deficiencies in writing.
· Ability to bend, lift, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time and to perform moderately heavy laboring work cutting bushes, carrying equipment, and climbing during bridge inspection.
· Display a high level of effort and commitment toward performing bridge inspection, high standards of honesty, trust and dependability.
· Ability to work cooperatively with other personnel in a team environment.
Displays a high level of flexibility and is able to quickly adapt to change.
AGECNY PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:
· Possesses basic structural knowledge of bridges.
· Ability to read plans.
· Ability to evaluate and record damaged sections of bridges.
· Possesses a good understanding of computers and how to operate them.

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
