Office of Bridge Design & Maintenance -ETP122 –GDOT Civil Engineer 3 (PG-M) "Civil Engineer 3" -Atlanta GA
JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, serves as a junior engineer performing engineering assignments. Provides engineering assistance developing project plans, designs, or traffic engineering studies and other related documents, field experience with traffic signals and ITS hardware, cost estimates and other engineering technical reports for transportation projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction of the State Bridge Inspection Engineer, assists in planning, administrating, executing, monitoring and evaluating both office and field work associated with bridge inspection and maintenance in a region of the state. Develops plans for rehabilitation of bridge structures for both lettings and the District’s. Disseminates bridge inspection information to appropriate federal, state and local officials for bridges in an assigned region of the state. Develops designs for projects, works with others during implementation and provides follow-up inspections. Performs any special projects as designated by the State Bridge Inspection Engineer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised qualifications to include the State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications.
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology, engineering with a civil specialization, construction engineering or other engineering/engineering technology field of study and six (6) months of job-related experience.
AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possesses a well-developed knowledge of structural analysis and design of bridges.
AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Demonstrate ability in preparing or reviewing bridge plans and associated supporting documents.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
- Successful completion of relevant coursework, including Structural Analysis, Reinforced Concrete and Steel Design, and Bridge Design.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software and MicroStation.

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
