JOB SUMMARY: Under broad supervision, performs engineering assignments in specialized areas.

Description of Duties: Under limited direction of the State Bridge Maintenance Engineer, assists in developing bridge preservation and rehabilitation plans, planning, administrating, executing, monitoring, and performing QA/QC on both office and field work associated with bridge inspection and maintenance in a region of the state. Disseminates bridge inspection information to appropriate federal, state, and local officials for bridges in an assigned region of the state. Develops designs for projects, works with others during implementation and provides follow-up inspections. Performs any special projects as designated by the State Bridge Maintenance Engineer.

POSITION SPECIFIC:

  • The physical office is located at the Transportation Management Center, 935 United Ave SE Atlanta.
  • This position requires travel. All travel expenses (rooms and meals) will be reimbursed.
  • This position may respond to bridge related emergencies (floods, bridge hits) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will receive a GDOT cell phone.

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:  

·         Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology, engineering with a civil specialization, construction engineering or other engineering technology field of study with one (1) year of job- related experience and an EIT.

·         OR five (5) years of experience without an EIT.

 

Note: Additionally, foreign degrees require a completed Equivalency Evaluation by NCEES along with an official transcript.

 

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Demonstrated experience writing technical reports. 

Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification

·         Demonstrated ability to assist/teach others by guiding and providing constructive feedback and to interact with others to influence, motivate, and challenge them.

·         Demonstrated experience identifying, recommending, and implementing solutions of various bridge problems.

·         Committed to providing quality customer service.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         Possesses knowledge of design of bridges.

·         Possesses Bridge Inspection Team Leader Qualification according to Federal Guidelines

·         Demonstrated skills working with databases and running database queries

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete
