Job Description, Responsibilities, Standards, and Qualifications
Job Description:
Provide healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed physician. Conduct complete physicals, provide treatment, and counsel clients. May, in some cases, prescribe medication.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:
- Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests
- Develops comprehensive plans of care
- Examines clients to obtain information about their physical condition
- Instructs and counsels clients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance
- Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal
- Makes tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of clients
- Obtains compiles and records client medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination
- Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management
- Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval
- Visits and observes clients on hospital rounds or house calls, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physician
- May supervise support and/or lower level employees
- Knowledge of assessment tools, interviewing, and physical examination techniques
- Ability to formulate diagnosis based on examination and test results; Able to interpret test results, identify deviations from norms, and intervene or make appropriate referrals
- Ability to assess, plan for, and provide basic nursing skills; knows procedures
- Ability to prescribe certain medications as part of a treatment plan gaining physician approval when needed
- Ability to document problems and/or needs identified from the treatment plan; competent in completing treatment plans
- Vacation
- 15 days each year up to 5 years of service
- 18 days each year from 5-10 years of service
- 21 days each year for 10 + years of service
- Sick Leave – accrual at a rate of 10 hours per month (15 days each year)
