Meat Inspection Supervisor (District 3 Atlanta)

The selected candidate must reside in District 3 or be willing to relocate.

NOTE: The location or headquarters for this position will be determined based on the applicant selected.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Georgia Meat Inspection Section (GMIS) Program Manager, ensures the effective implementation of the Meat Inspection Program within the assigned district.
The duties for this position include:
· Prepares staffing assignments for district Meat Inspection personnel.
· Supervises and evaluates the proficiency, knowledge, and job performance of personnel who are engaged in conducting antemortem and postmortem inspections at livestock slaughter establishments and/or inspections of processing facilities to ensure regulatory compliance.
· Conducts establishment reviews.
· Conducts and/or coordinates training of new inspectors and completes administrative reports.
· Monitors workload and performance of assigned employees by established policies and procedures.
· As a member of the GMIS Supervisory Team, coordinates closely with all GMIS Management and Support Staff throughout the state to foster and implement the mission and vision of GMIS.
Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
· Working knowledge or prior experience in performing the administrative and supervisory tasks required by a Meat Inspector Supervisor.
· Proven leadership qualities.
· Ability to work closely with others and effect positive changes as a contributing team member.
· Skilled in conflict management and professional communication, both verbally and in writing.
· Excellent reading comprehension and analytical ability.
· Ability to effectively interact with industry and the public.
· Knowledge of sanitation and good manufacturing practices.
· Understanding of federal and state laws relating to food safety, meat inspection, etc.
· Completion of a bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in Animal Science, Environmental Science, Biology, or a closely related field; and
· Computer skills, including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows applications.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. As a condition of continued employment, the selected candidate must complete and pass all required USDA Inspection Methods training and tests at the first available opportunity after being hired.
Candidates who fail the Inspection Methods exam on their first attempt may be eligible for one (1) additional retest, at the GMIS Director’s discretion.
2. The selected candidate must also complete EIAO (Enforcement, Investigative, Analysis Officer) training.
