Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant - Macon YDC - Macon, GA (FSC)
Job Summary:
Make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of youth in the care of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). As a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant, you will lead facility operations on your assigned shift, ensuring a safe, structured, therapeutic, and educational environment. You will provide leadership to staff while promoting pro-social behavior and rehabilitation for detained youth.
This position is responsible for overseeing daily security operations, supervising subordinate staff, and ensuring compliance with all DJJ policies and procedures. The Lieutenant plays a key role in maintaining order, supporting staff development, and upholding the mission of DJJ.
- Supervise shift operations and ensure the custody, safety, and security of youth in compliance with DJJ policies and procedures.
- Provide direct leadership, support, and guidance to juvenile correctional staff, including Sergeants and Officers.
- Oversee active supervision and behavioral intervention strategies to maintain order and promote positive conduct.
- Ensure staff implement therapeutic and rehabilitative approaches in interactions with youth.
- Manage and coordinate staff assignments, shift coverage, and incident response.
- Conduct inspections, monitor facility conditions, and oversee searches to ensure a secure environment.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed incident reports, logs, and administrative documentation.
- Review and interpret youth records to address behavioral or security concerns.
- Assist in recruiting, training, evaluating, and mentoring subordinate staff.
- Uphold facility policies, procedures, and standards; ensure staff compliance with all regulations.
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP223) or in a comparable supervisory position
- Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification within six months of hire
- Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License
Preference will be given to candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and possess one or more of the following:
- Current and valid Juvenile Correctional Officer certification from the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council
- One or more years of experience in a Juvenile Justice environment
- Completion of one or more years of college coursework
Eligible veterans may receive additional salary increases:
- 2.5% increase for 1 year of active-duty service
- 5% increase for 2 years
- 7.5% increase for 3 years
- 10% increase for 4+ years
