Job Summary
The primary goal of this role is to positively impact the lives of youth in the Department of Juvenile Justice by maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment. Key responsibilities include:
Providing support, guidance, and structure by modeling pro-social behaviors such as empathy, cooperation, and professionalism.
Supervising, guiding, and instructing the work assignments of subordinate staff.
Acting as a shift supervisor for a specific unit or program.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Safety and Custody: Assuming responsibility for the custody and care of youth through adherence to department policies and standard operating procedures.
Behavioral Management: Maintaining order by intervening in inappropriate behavior and through active supervision.
Supervision: Planning and supervising the work of assigned staff, including training, selecting, and orienting new subordinates.
Administrative Tasks: Completing paperwork, maintaining records, and developing work and security procedures.
Security Operations: Supervising contraband searches, inspections, and maintaining control over logs, keys, tools, and weapons.
Compliance: Enforcing all facility rules and reviewing youth information to identify issues requiring special attention.
Qualifications
Entry Qualifications
A High school diploma or GED.
One year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP223) or equivalent.
Alternative: Two years of military experience at rank E-5 or higher.
Certification: Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within the first six months of employment.
