Instructional Aide for Surgical Technology

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Instructional Aide supports the delivery of instructional activities within the assigned program by providing classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction under the guidance of program faculty.

MAJOR DUTIES

·         Delivers classroom, laboratory, and simulated instruction under the direction of program faculty;

·         Supervises and monitors student learning activities in laboratory settings to ensure proper technique, safety, and adherence to program and industry standards;

·         Assists with supervising students during clinical experiences and monitors student activities to ensure compliance with program and clinical site requirements;

·         Observes and documents student performance and skill development and provides feedback to faculty regarding student progress;

·         Tutors and assists individual students to reinforce course material and technical competencies;

·         Assists with preparation and organization of instructional materials, laboratory demonstrations, equipment, and supplies used in teaching activities;

·         Assists with maintaining a safe, organized, and effective learning environment in classrooms, laboratories, and clinical settings;

·         Assists with maintaining accurate student records and documentation related to attendance, and skill competencies as directed by faculty;

·         Demonstrates professionalism and maintains positive relationships with students, colleagues, external partners, and the general public;

·         Participates in assessment, planning, budgeting, and professional development activities;

·         Performs other duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES

·         Knowledge of pedagogical practices and instructional theory applicable to technical education

·         Knowledge of the mission and purpose of postsecondary technical education

·         Knowledge of applicable academic, program, and state instructional standards

·         Knowledge of the college’s academic and workforce education programs

·         Skill in planning, preparing, and delivering effective classroom and laboratory instruction

·         Skill in assessing student learning and providing constructive feedback

·         Skill in working cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners

·         Skill in decision-making and problem-solving within an instructional environment

·         Skill in the use of computers, instructional technology, and job-related software applications

·         Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         High School Diploma or GED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum qualifications:

·         Active Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential accredited by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

·         Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS0 Provider Certification

·         Clinical experience as a Surgical Technologist
