Job Summary
This is hourly paid work assisting teachers with curriculum planning, supervision of students, and teaching youth in a classroom setting. The role supports instruction by presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, preparing classroom materials, and providing student supervision.

Job Specific Duties

  • Provide support to teachers to ensure a safe and engaging educational environment.
  • Assist teachers in planning and preparing daily instructional activities.
  • Help develop lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas.
  • Prepare teaching aids such as activity sheets, drawings, and classroom materials.
  • Present subject matter to students under teacher guidance, using various methods (stories, discussions, role-play, etc.).
  • Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as preparing, typing, copying, and filing instructional materials.
  • Operate and care for instructional equipment and materials.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Participate in professional development activities as assigned.
  • Follow all school district and DJJ policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience working in an instructional/childcare setting; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Instruction Paraprofessional 1 (EDS010) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess two or more of the following:

  • Experience working with at-risk youth in an educational setting.
  • Associate’s degree.
  • Experience as a teacher’s aide and/or office clerk.
  • Paraprofessional Certification with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) or completion of a two-year degree.
