Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) -Georgia Academy for the Blind is recruiting for an experienced Instruction Paraprofessional 1. Under direct supervision, this position will assist the instructor/teacher with providing education and/or training to students who are visually impaired with other disabilities. The job responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Description of Duties:
- Assist teacher in maintaining an effective learning environment.
- Assist students with individual physical needs, which includes daily living/functional training activities including self-care, feeding, and leisure.
- Plan and conduct child development activities
- Monitor and supervise various classroom functions
- Obtains and/or prepares instructional materials/aids in appropriate formats for students.
- Completes documentation of student progress.
- Attend seminars, conferences, required job-related training and other staff development training programs.
- May serve on committees.
- Must be able to deliver ABA therapy or comparable skill set to meet the needs of the EBD program required by IEP.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
- Experience as a paraprofessional
- Experience working with visually impaired, blind, hard of hearing, deaf, deaf-blind, or multi-disabled students
- Knowledge and/or basic skills in Braille.
- Knowledge of assistive technology device
- EBD or ABA certification or experience working with EBD students
