Housekeeper 3 - Metro RYDC - Atlanta, GA (NSC)
Job Summary
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and order throughout DJJ facilities. Duties include cleaning assigned areas, operating and maintaining housekeeping and laundry equipment, and ensuring inventory levels are adequate. The role may include supervisory responsibilities and require a high level of independence and reliability.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs assigned duties with minimal supervision
- Acts as a subject matter expert and key resource in designated work areas
- May supervise and direct the work of housekeeping and laundry staff
- Cleans and maintains assigned areas to meet sanitation and safety standards
- Ensures laundry, housekeeping, and floor equipment are in good working condition
- Maintains appropriate stock of supplies and equipment
- Creates or alters specialized garments and items (e.g., restraint clothing, helmets, surgical gowns)
- Performs basic repairs on residents’ clothing, upholstery, and mattresses
- Follows proper protocols for the disposal of contaminated waste
- Operates hand tools and powered cleaning/laundry equipment
- Plans, schedules, and implements laundry services efficiently
Entry Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience as a lead worker in a related area
OR - One (1) year of experience at the level of Housekeeper 2 (FES041) or equivalent position
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the entry qualifications, preference may be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Experience supervising or training staff in a housekeeping or laundry services setting
- Demonstrated ability to operate commercial-grade laundry and cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of safety protocols, including handling contaminated materials
- Experience with minor clothing and upholstery repairs
- Ability to track inventory and manage supply ordering
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism within a secure facility
