Purpose of the Position: Under direct supervision, provides limited para-professional breastfeeding services to clients and their families. Assists with breastfeeding classes for WIC participants. Provides individual, basic breastfeeding education and counseling in the WIC clinic and outside of the WIC clinic. Follows all Loving Support and Cobb and Douglas WIC Guidelines in maintaining caseload and documenting participant contacts. Issues and logs breast pumps within WIC and Loving Support Policy. Participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate. This position works to promote and protect the health and safety of the residents of Cobb and Douglas Counties. This job description may be changed at any time.
Essential functions (include, but are not limited to):
· Receives and maintains a caseload of WIC mothers per Loving Support Guidelines
o 3 participants per hour worked
· Provides basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers
o Breastfeeding Benefits, Breastfeeding Common Barriers…
· Assists with WIC clinic prenatal, breastfeeding classes and support groups
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of job-related experience in a social services-related position.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills: The ability to translate English to Spanish and Spanish to English orally and in writing is preferred but not required. Previous experience as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. Certificate of completion of Loving Support Breastfeeding Training as recognized by USDA.
Work Conditions & Physical Demands: Inventory Management may require lifting of up to 50 pounds. Fast paced work environment: ability to prioritize and self-manage tasks as needed in office AND home setting. Some travel involving home/hospital visits, trainings, meetings, and outreach.
