Health Science Core/CNA Instructor
Savannah Technical College is seeking a 12-month full-time faculty member. The faculty will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to progress into a post-secondary Health Science program or become employed in their chosen Health Science profession. The position also requires the supervision of students during patient care. Responsibilities are based at the Liberty Campus, but will require travel to any Savannah Technical College Campus or clinical site within the College's service area and flexibility to teach day, evening, and weekend classes.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, manage, and teach classes, delivering instruction both individually and as a member of a team;
- Prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited and occupational courses;
- Advise and register health sciences students;
- Develop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requested;
- Evaluate effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveys;
- Complete reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and agencies;
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies;
- Participate in advisory committees for the department, as well as other College committees and meetings;
- Collaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areas;
- Instruct students, develop program syllabi, goals, and objectives;
- Initiate and facilitate student activities for health care assistant and health care science students;
- Assist with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts;
- Assist with cataloging and ordering equipment and supplies;
- Assist with developing the annual health sciences core budget(s);
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the fields by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
- Follow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College, to include standards for student-faculty professional relationships/interaction;
- Communicate professionally with college stakeholders;
- Perform basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, Word; Excel, PowerPoint, and email;
- Utilize excellent organizational and customer service skills to interact professionally with Savannah Tech employees, students, and visitors;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in a Health Care related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Unencumbered, Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
- Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a Health Care related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Unencumbered, Georgia Licensed Registered Nurse (RN).
- Nurse Aide Program Train the Trainer certification.
- Teaching experience in nurse aide/patient care technician program or course.
- Experience teaching in postsecondary education.
- Instructor certification for American Heath Association BLS CPR or First Aid preferred.
- Experience utilizing a Learning Management System (LMS); experience with the Blackboard LMS platform.
- Experience in the development, administration, and evaluation of academic programs, to include curriculum development, instructional methodology, planning, evaluation, budgeting, supervision, and management.
Physical Demands:
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10 lbs. or less. Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for seven (7) eight - (8) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) - four (4) hours; and occasionally lift 50lbs. to 75 lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.
Salary/Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package. Positions are contingent upon funding.
