Job Summary:

Under general supervision provides guidance and counseling services to youth under the care and/or custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Coordinates transition efforts among teachers, students, parents, and local school districts. Meets with staff and outside agencies concerning educational, vocational, social, and emotional well-being of students. Maintains student information for the purpose of program planning. Coordinates and implements a program that provides career guidance, counseling and academic services to students. Provide case management for student participants as needed.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Schedules weekly visits to the RYDC's. Calendar prepared monthly

  • Reviews student records upon arrival at the facility

  • Completes a Graduation Status Report for high school students when records arrive. ensures that all high school students present for 30 days or more must have a Graduation Status Report. Provides advisement.

  • Reviews all schedules for students that have been entered into infinite Campus by the Vocational Instructor/Practical Instructor/Education Clerk

  • Completes individual Graduation Plan for all 8" grade students

  • Coordinates End of Course test administration

  • Reviews students who are I the RYDC's for more than a semester to determine progress and appropriate academic placement.

  • Prepares Career and College advisement to long-term students

  • Coordinates Placement/Retention Committee meetings and determinations

  • Available for input int RTI/504 meetings

  • Coordinates Career/College Day for each RYDC during Spring Semester

  • Serves as the primary school contact for public schools. Assists with the transition process back into public school

  • Conducts classroom guidance and groups

  • Assists with coordination of special activities and programs such as Red Ribbon Week

  • Coordinates Odyssey ware enrollment

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Associate Superintendent for Student Support Services.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in School Counseling-required

Must hold or be eligible for Georgia School Counseling Certification

Note: Must be able to perceive the needs of the total school program. Strong decision-making ability. Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others. Knowledge of school, school district, and agency policies and procedures. Ability to relate to a wide variety of people

 

and to observe, listen and provide leadership which results in the best possible school environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

Education Specialist degree

Experience Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Education

Successful classroom teaching experience
