Department of Transportation  Summer Internship Program

JOB SUMMARY
The Office of Procurement Internship Program is a part-time summer internship opportunity with the Georgia Department of Transportation. This program provides students with collaborative and innovative learning experiences that complement their academic curriculum. Interns will expand and strengthen their professional background by building workplace relationships, learning new tools, and gaining hands-on experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will have experience by immersion into the various steps of looking for innovative solutions to a department need identified through an analysis. The defined learning elements for the 90-day program will include:  
1.    Data analysis is needed, tools that are used, and how to interpret the data.  
a.  Data Review  
i.     Use of Queries  
ii.    Statistical needs analysis – Areas of demand, Frequency of Demand, 
Forecasting  
b.  Market Review  
i.     What/How are other DOTs doing to meet the need  
ii.    Internet search of similar programs/solutions/solicitations  
c.    Scope Development  
i.     Defining outline of criteria  
ii.    Stakeholder Review  
2.    Public Solicitation Development for a Request of Quote, Term Contract  
a.    Defining of Evaluation Criteria  
b.    Cost Worksheet development  
c.    Public View Posting  
d.    Evaluation and Award  
3.    Basic Contract Development  

Each of the 3 areas will be supervised and mentored by the Office of Procurement Strategic Sourcing manager. Providing knowledge and guidance what is needed for each task. 

STATE QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled as a full-time or part-time student 
2.0 overall GPA or better
Fall of previous year academic transcript
Meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States; 18 years of age
Meet any additional requirements of the attending school's Internship Program

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled as a full-time or part-time student currently pursuing a BS or MS in Business Administration or equal 
2.0 overall GPA or better
Fall of previous year academic transcript
Meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States; 18 years of age
Meet any additional requirements of the attending school's Internship Program

 AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled as a full-time or part-time student currently pursuing a BS or MS in Business Administration or equal
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks efficiently
Meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States; 18 years of age
Meet any additional requirements of the attending school’s internship program

THE SELECTED APPLICANT FOR THE POSITION WILL BE SUBJECT TO A REFERENCE CHECK AND CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK, WHERE APPLICABLE

IMPORTANT NOTE:
This is a temporary internship position. Interns are paid on an hourly basis in accordance with their current academic classification as of the previous Fall Semester. This position does not include benefits, earned leave, or paid holidays. Interns may work up to 40 hours per week during the program period.

The pay for this position is as follows:

  • Lower-division undergraduate (0–59 semester hours): $20.00 per hour
  • Upper-division undergraduate (60–120 semester hours): $21.00 per hour    
  • Graduate students (must hold a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a graduate program): $23.00 per hour
