GDOT Legislative Internship Program
JOB SPECIFIC: The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Legislative Affairs team functions as a liaison between the department, the Governor's Office, state agencies, and state, federal, and local elected officials. The Legislative Affairs intern works closely with the Director of Policy and Government Affairs and the Government and Legislative Relations Specialist. Day to day responsibilities of the legislative affairs intern includes taking phone calls, helping manage the legislative inquiry system, preparing briefings and internal documents, tracking legislation, attending House and Senate committee meetings, and conducting various research projects. During the legislative session, interns are responsible for attending House and Senate Floor Sessions and committee hearings and tracking legislation as it passes through both chambers.
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrolled as a full or part-time student in a college or university
- 2.0 overall GPA or better
- Current academic transcript
- Meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States; 18 years of age
- Meet any additional requirements of the attending school's Internship program
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task
- A general knowledge of Georgia's legislative process

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Students are paid on an hourly basis in accordance with their current academic classification. This is a temporary position
and there are no benefits, earned leave, or paid holidays. Students may work a maximum of 40 hours per week for up to
12 weeks.
The pay for this position is as follows:
- 59 semester hours-$20.00 per hour
- 60-120 semester hours- $21.00 per hour
- Graduate Students- $23.00 per hour
