The Georgia Department of Education - Georgia School of Deaf is hiring for an experienced Food Service Worker. This position works in the preparation, cooking, serving and distribution of food to customers, clients and/or employees. Duties include but is not limited to:

  • Operate and maintain specialized food service equipment
  • Prepares foods
  • Perform general facility and equipment sanitation maintenance in accordance with federal, state, and department guidelines
  • Serve as lead worker
  • Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Cleans work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware
  • Cleans, peels, slices and trims foodstuffs using manual and electric appliances
  • Conducts or assists with food supply requisitions and sanitation and maintenance inspections
  • Coordinates the daily work schedule of cashiers with the cafeteria manager
  • Monitor the cash registers and cashier's breaks
  • Observes safety, sanitation and health rules and standards
  • Portions food or places it directly on plates for service to facility residents, employees or patrons and packages takeout foods
  • Receives payment for food items
  • Replenishes supplies of food, condiments, and equipment at steam tables and service bars. Serves as a lead worker to assigned food service workers
  • Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage
  • Takes customers' orders and serves customers.
  • Train workers in food preparation, and in service, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • Unpack and stores supplies, raw and prepared food products

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to meeting the minimum qualification, preference will be given to candidates meeting one or more of the preferred qualifications:

  • Basic ASL skills
  • Working in a school setting

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in the area of assignment; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Food Svc Worker 2 (FFS011) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
