Job Summary

This is hourly paid work assisting teachers with curriculum planning, supervision of students, and teaching youth in a classroom setting. The role supports instruction by reinforcing learning concepts and providing supervision and assistance as needed.

 Job Specific Duties

  • Provides support to teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment.
  • Assists teachers in planning and preparing daily instructional activities.
  • Helps develop lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas.
  • Prepares instructional materials, including activity sheets, drawings, and other teaching aids.
  • Presents subject matter to students under teacher guidance using a variety of instructional methods (stories, discussions, role-playing, etc.).
  • Provides one-on-one and small-group assistance to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Performs clerical tasks related to classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, copying, and filing instructional materials.
  • Operates and cares for instructional equipment and materials.
  • Observes and manages student behavior in accordance with established procedures.
  • Participates in professional growth activities as required.
  • Follows all communicated school district and DJJ policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess two or more of the following:

  • Experience working with at-risk youth in an educational setting.
  • Associate’s degree.
  • Prior experience as a teacher’s aide and/or office clerk.
  • Paraprofessional Certification with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) or completion of a two-year degree.
