Job Summary:

Assist teachers with curriculum planning, supervision of students, and teaching youth in the classroom setting; assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts.

This is a temporary or hourly paid work performing educational assistance. Positions in this job are established for less than 9 months or are scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary (i.e., SCOA 513). Normally permanent labor positions are eligible for Health Insurance benefits.



Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides support the teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment
  • Assist teachers in planning and preparation for daily activities; aids instructional efforts of the teacher
  • Assists the teacher in preparing lesion outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas
  • Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for use in the classroom, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts.
  • Presents subject matter to students, under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role playing
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, coping and filing instructional materials
  • Operate and care for instructional equipment and materials
  • Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures
  • Participate in professional growth activities
  • Follow the communicated policies and procedures of the school district
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess two or more of the following:

 

  1. Experience working with at-risk youth in an educational environment.
  2. Associate`s degree.
  3. Experience as a teacher's aide and or office clerk
  4. Paraprofessional Certification with the Georgia Professional Practices Commission or Two-Year Degree.
