JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides working level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, supervises a maintenance crew involved in district wide operations to include pavement preservation activities, emergency repairs to roadway and grading of areas within the state route system. Trains personnel in safety procedures, equipment operation and preventive maintenance techniques, and enforces compliance with same. Responsible for coordinating, planning and directing all activities of the crew to accomplish the tasks assigned by the supervisor. Maintains a positive working relationship with the traveling public. Evaluates personnel performance, and provides feedback and counseling for professional growth. Completes required documents, forms and reports. Operates equipment assigned to the crew as required to assist in the accomplishment of assigned tasks. May facilitate team response to emergencies on the state route system.
NOTE: Based on operation requirements such as brine transport and on-call emergencies, possession of a Class A CDL may be preferred for some positions. At the discretion of the hiring manager, he/she reserves the right to interview only those who meet this criteria in addition to the minimum qualifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six months of related experience OR Associate’s degree and One Year of related experience OR One year of at position equivalent

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
· Successful completion of MSD Level 1-4.
· Thorough knowledge of and experience in the maintenance activities in the area of assignment.
· Advanced knowledge of specialty equipment
· Demonstrated experience operating and performing preventive maintenance on all equipment assigned to the crew.
· Experience training personnel in safety procedures and preventive maintenance techniques.
· Demonstrated competencies in managing the work activities of a large crew without direct supervision.
· Committed to providing quality customer service.
· Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
· Ability to work and communicate cooperatively with others, handle complaints while projecting a professional image of oneself and the Department, and display a high level of work ethics to other departmental personnel and the general public.
· Ability to analyze situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution based on facts, rules, etc.
· Possesses basic math skills used to measure volumes, calculate materials inventory, and complete reports.
· Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
· Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
· Ability to determine priorities from management and convey information to and from the general public.
· Possesses accurate eye-hand coordination.
· Ability to bend, lift, climb, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
· Ability to exert oneself physically overtime.
· Ability to adapt to changing situations and work plans.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A.
· Possession of CDL Tanker Endorsement.
· Possession CDL Hazardous Material Endorsement.
· Demonstrated experience visualizing the required work needed and ascertain what materials and equipment are needed to complete the job.
· Working knowledge of the organizational structure of the Department and the working relationship between the Department and its customers.
· Demonstrated experience working well with others in resolving problems.

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
