JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under limited supervision, directs a district pre-construction and/or construction survey crew, or a statewide geodetic and mapping control crew, in all phases of surveying. Informs crew of survey data to be gathered for each project and directs subordinates in the use of all survey equipment to ensure sufficient information is obtained.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree in a related field OR Associate's degree in a related field OR One year of experience at position equivalent.
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Extensive knowledge of processing in TBC, Trimble M3, S7, S8, R8, R10, DINI, or Leica P40/
· Experience in operating survey instruments and related equipment (i.e. Total station instrument, high precision level) to perform pre-construction and/or construction surveying.
· Extensive knowledge of surveying procedures and a working knowledge of electronic survey data processing procedures.
· Competency in reading, interpreting and communicating technical manuals and instructions related to the job.
· Demonstrated experience locating and recognizing pertinent information on maps, plans, aerial photography, deeds, quickly and accurately.
· Demonstrated experience composing basic correspondence and preparing job related reports.
· Demonstrated proficiency in performing trigonometric calculations.
· Ability to compute alignments and offsets
· Possesses basic knowledge of departmental policies and rules.
· Demonstrated ability to visualize directions, elevations, and scope of project.
· Possesses the physical strength and agility and stamina necessary to perform the core responsibilities of the job.
· Ability to direct and evaluate the work of subordinates.
· Demonstrated ability to make well-informed decisions using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend solutions.
· Ability to train and motivate crew members; to adapt to and effectively utilize new equipment and procedures.
· Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with manager, crew members, and external personnel in a professional and cooperative manner
· Ability to manage own time effectively setting well-defined personal goals;

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a Registered Land Survey or License.
· Demonstrated ability to develop new procedures where established guidelines/procedures are inapplicable.
· Demonstrated ability to determine appropriate work objectives in accordance with departmental goals and effectively organize work to achieve them.

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
