Position Summary

The Adult Education Director provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and institutional leadership for programs including Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), English as a Second Language (ESL), Integrated Education & Training (IET), and workforce literacy and transition pathways.

 

Salary Range

This position is funded through external grant support, and the final salary offer will be determined based on the benefits package selected by the candidate. The grant establishes a maximum allowable total compensation, and the salary will be adjusted to remain within those parameters.

 

Funding Status

This role is part of a long-standing and well-established grant-funded program within the College. While the program has a consistent history of renewal and is considered stable, all employment in grant-funded positions is contingent upon the availability and continuation of grant funds. In accordance with College and State policies, the position may be adjusted or concluded if grant funding is reduced, discontinued, or not renewed.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares grant applications and reporting documentation

  • Maintains up-to-date procedures that impact department operations

  • Provides oversight for the maintenance of student records and the student data system

  • Prepares and delivers reports promptly to the college leadership and the Technical College System of Georgia

  • Maintains in-depth understanding of the goals and objectives of the Technical College System of Georgia Office of Adult Education

  • Manages financial/budget operations of the department

  • Designs and maintains accountability systems and ensures compliance with federal and state grant funding requirements

  • Provides instructional leadership, supports curriculum, instructional quality, staff development, and online learning

  • Coordinates and administers instructional services within the service delivery area by implementing plans for student retention and skill development

  • Builds partnerships with the workforce, education, and community organizations

  • Assist with the coordination of High School Equivalency testing across the college’s service delivery area

  • Supervises hiring, professional development, and evaluations of Adult Education staff

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Excel

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Skilled in planning and organizing projects

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional practices, and literacy program models.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Ability to interpret and apply federal/state regulations related to adult education.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Education, Public Administration, Workforce Development or a closely related field

  • Five (5) years of professional experience in adult education, K–12 or postsecondary education, workforce development, compliance, grant management, or a related field.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Adult Education, Public Administration, Workforce Development or a closely related field

  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience in adult education, adult literacy, ESL, HSE preparation, or workforce education.

  • Experience managing budgets, grants, or compliance-driven programs.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and/or leading instructional or operational teams.

  • Prior experience with instructional leadership, curriculum oversight, or professional development for educators.
