DescriptionUnder the direction of the Executive Director/COO, the Deputy Executive Director is responsible for the development of strategies, goals and objectives to accomplish the mission of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation and acts as liaison with all divisions to manage day-to-day operations. 

General Responsibilities

§  Work with the Executive Director/COO and the executive team to develop, plan, implement and administer the agency’s strategies, goals and objectives

§  Act as liaison with all divisions to assist the ED/COO with managing and overseeing the daily operations of the agency

§  Serve as a representative of SBWC at various internal and external meetings, may serve on committees as needed

§  Maintain confidentiality of official business, unless legally required to disclose

§  Maintain knowledge of assigned program area(s) and give updates to the Board and the Executive Director on services, operations and projects

§  Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of workers’ compensation by reading appropriate publications and attending relevant seminars, conferences, etc.

§  Plan, organize and manage special projects for the Executive Director, Chairman and/or Board

§  Review and evaluate projects in progress, contract compliance and quality control

§  Act as a resource to other agencies, the Workers’ Compensation community, customers and the general public.

§  Create and maintain a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation.

§  Serves as the Board’s Ethics Officer

§  Serves as open records officer including handling of responding to open records and/or FOIA requests.

§  Assists with handling of constituent issues from the Governor’s office, State Legislature and U.S. Congressional offices.

§  Assists with collection of statistical and other data as requested.

§  Serves as a member of the Board’s internal Fee Schedule Team including participation in annual fee schedule updates, reviews and responds to various inquiries and other issues as needed.

§  Knowledge of worker’s compensation and insurance industry operations

§  Comprehensive knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to workers’ compensation

§  Ability to negotiate and collaborate

§  Ability to produce and conduct presentations in large or small group settings

§  Critical thinking and analysis skills

§  Skill in communication (written & oral), interpersonal relations and interacting with the public

§  Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs

§  Written and oral communication skills

§  Business, organizational & leadership skills

§  Decision making and problem-solving skills

§  Ability to manage multiple projects, programs and deadlines

§  Ability to work effectively with diverse administrative, legal and political populations

Minimum Qualifications

Eight-ten years of management experience – directing and overseeing the administration of a program, section or division.
