Central Office – Criminal Investigator Supervisor (Mitigation Manager)


The Georgia Public Defender Council has an opening for a full-time Criminal Investigator Supervisor–Mitigation Manager in the Atlanta Central Office. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing statewide investigative and mitigation services in complex criminal cases, including death-eligible, serious violent felony, juvenile life-without-parole, gang, and RICO matters. The Manager of Mitigation Services will supervise investigators, mitigation specialists, and sentencing advocates; manage caseloads and resource allocation. The candidate selected will demonstrate advanced knowledge of criminal investigations, mitigation practices, evidence development, case management, staff supervision, and strategic litigation support, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and effectively manage complex, sensitive, and high-profile cases.

Job Description and Requirements: The Criminal Investigator Supervisor–Mitigation Manager is responsible for directing complex criminal and mitigation investigations; developing comprehensive life-history and social-history investigations; identifying, obtaining, and analyzing evidence and records; and providing strategic consultation to defense teams statewide. This position collaborates with attorneys, investigators, forensic experts, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to support case strategy, advocacy, and effective representation. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, Georgia P.O.S.T. certification, and three (3) years of related experience; or Georgia P.O.S.T. certification and five (5) years of experience in law enforcement or related field; or Georgia P.O.S.T. certification and two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Criminal Investigator 3 (PSP092) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require the incumbent to have a valid Class C driver's license.
