The Georgia Department of Revenue seeks to fill a Compliance Specialist 1 position in the Local Government Services Division. The Division administers all property tax laws and regulations, distributes sales and use taxes to local taxing authorities, and administers the laws set forth in the Unclaimed Property Act. Each of the 159 Georgia counties has tax offices that assess and collect property tax.

Reporting to the Compliance Specialist Supervisor, you will be responsible for learning to review, monitor, and ensure compliance with Public Utility, Airline, and Railroad Equipment companies by determining compliance with State Law and regulations concerning Property Tax Administration.  This may consist of on-site audits. Additionally, the role requires a high degree of initiative, proficient computer skills, customer service & analytical skills, independent judgment, and the ability to multi-task. 

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting on-site reviews or audits of Public Utility, Airline, and Railroad Equipment companies.

  • Reviewing tax returns for accuracy and compliance with guidelines, regulations and laws.

  • Researching financial histories, previous payments, balance sheet details or prior audit findings.

Minimum Entry Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of job-related experience. (Property tax with a Georgia County Board of Assessors, Tax Commissioner’s Office, accounting firm, or auditing firm)

*In addition to meeting minimum entry qualifications, all DOR contingent workers must have completed at least 6 consecutive months on the current assignment for consideration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Appraiser level I or II certification

  • Accounting degree

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel

Location:
This position functions as a mobile worker but is assigned to the Department of Revenue South Metro Facilities at 4125 Welcome All Rd, Atlanta GA, 30349. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required, as this position travels up to 80% of the time.
