Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE)-School Nutrition Division are recruiting for an experienced Communications Specialist II. Under the general supervision of the Program Manager this position, plans, develops, and implements communications or outreach program, and/or public relations plan for the Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Division. The Communications Specialist II develops informational publications and presentations and plans conferences and seminars for social or community outreach. The job responsibilities include but not limited to:
Description of Duties
Providing technical support for program social media sites and developing, designing, and delivering the Division’s social media strategic plan
Actively participating as a member of the communications team, responsible for developing, delivering, and reviewing content for social media platforms, presentations, and resources for the School Nutrition Division
Supporting the research, development, delivery, and hosting of our division podcast, as well as maintaining and uploading podcast episodes using Spotify for Podcasters
Drafting and refining written materials and related communications
Formatting, typing, and editing complex documents for publication
Capturing, editing, and producing digital content for a variety of uses by our division including audio and video editing
Developing, creating, and maintaining print materials, forms, resources, and graphics following style and brand guidelines for GaDOE and the School Nutrition Division
Supporting the promotion of the mission and vision, goals, and strategic plan of the GaDOE School Nutrition Division
Collaborating with all teams within the School Nutrition Division as well as internal and external stakeholders, as directed
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
Demonstrated social media and marketing experience for a business or non-profit organization including use of short form video content
Experience using digital communications software specifically Canva, Hootsuite, ISSUU, Meta Business
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud specifically Premier Pro, Audition, and Photoshop
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, One Drive, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams
Effective communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience providing technical assistance to end users
Excellent organization and time management skills
Experience with a non-profit
Note: This fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requires an organized, positive, responsible team player who is comfortable with multi-tasking and receiving direction from the Program Manager and the Deputy Superintendent. This position requires some in-state travel.
****This is a remote/telework position based in Downtown Atlanta. Some Statewide travel is required.
