The Communication Specialist will serve as State Coordinator for programs within the Outreach Unit of the Watershed Protection Branch, Nonpoint Source Program. The Coordinator is responsible for leading statewide water education and stewardship programs across the state. This includes organizing and supporting volunteer and educator networks, coordinating training workshops and events, developing and updating educational materials, and managing program databases, communications, and outreach efforts. The Coordinator works closely with partners, advisory boards, and community organizations to promote river and watershed protection and education across Georgia.
Minimum qualifications:
Communications Spec. 1-GSP040-Highschool diploma/GED and 3 years of communications or job related experience
Communications Spec. 2-GSP041-Highschool diploma/GED and 4 years of communications or job-related experience; or 1 year of experience required at the lower level Communications Spec 1.
Communications Spec. 3-GSP042-Highschool diploma/GED and 5 years of experience communications or job-related experience; or 1 year of experience required at the lower level Communications Spec 2.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, writing, organizational, and science skills, along with experience in education, community engagement, and environmental programs. Knowledge of aquatic ecology, watershed health, and nonpoint source pollution is valuable. The role requires travel throughout Georgia and flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
