The Georgia Job ChalleNGe Academy (GA JCA) is a five-month residential program that provides recent graduates of the Georgia Youth ChalleNGe Program an opportunity to receive vocation training in a Youth Challenge, military-like, environment. GA JCA offers students vocational training at local technical schools and related job skills training designed to prepare them for successful employment or continuation of their education and training upon completion of the program. In addition, students receive academic support to complete their GED or High School Diploma. GA JCA students enroll in vocational and technical courses at Savannah Technical College and Coastal Pines Technical College. Georgia Youth Challenge Program graduates who are selected for the Georgia Job ChalleNGe Academy will receive a scholarship to cover the costs of meals, transportation, housing, tuition, and other fees associated with enrollment.
This position would be providing oversight and monitoring of cadets working towards their high school diploma or GED in a virtual classroom environment.
Valid Paraprofessional Certification required within six (6) months of hire.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES OF THE CLASSROOM ASSISTANT:
- Assists the online virtual teacher with conducting lessons and managing the classroom;
- Acts as a nurturing and encouraging influence for students during lessons;
- Monitors the classroom and minimizes distractions and disruptions to keep students focused on their lessons.
- Communicating when necessary with the Site Manager and teachers about student needs.
- Ensures students are doing work as they should be and monitoring for cheating;
Works with computer and specialized AV equipment to make these resources available to students during lessons.
Preferred Qualifications:
Further consideration may also be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, also possess a combination of the following:
- 1-2 years of experience with at-risk youth, ages 15-19 years old;
- Basic computer software usage skills
Experience with Canvas or other virtual school environment software.
