Job Summary:

Under broad supervision, provides analysis and/or recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the agency. Acts as a liaison or representative between the agency and Department of Law.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under broad supervision, provides analysis and/or recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the agency.
  • Acts as a liaison or representative between the agency and Department of Law. Reviews investigative reports and identifies areas that require further investigation.
  • Researches and analyzes current statutory and case law affecting the agency and/or programs.  
  • Represents the agency in administrative hearings or as a client to the Department of Law.
  • Provides training for other staff.
  • Provides research and analysis of legal, policy and environmental issues.
  • Provides legal services such as writing articles and drafting new or amended legislation or regulations.
  • Provides analysis, answers, or recommendations regarding legal, liability and/or risk-management issues.
  • Prepares grant and contract proposals and administers contracts with funding agencies.
  • Participates in the preparation and coordination of cases prior to and during court trials and administrative hearings.
  • Participates in the implementation of settlements, agreements, and/or legal judgments within approved guidelines.
  • Implements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of departmental processes and activities.
  • Identifies and resolves, or assists in the resolution of, legal problems.
  • Drafts amendments to existing contracts and standardized letters and notices related to administrative legal procedures.
  • Develops, oversees, and implements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of department processes.
  • Coordinates and implements due process procedures and procedures for appeals.
  • Acts as a resource to answer questions and evaluates the status of reimbursements or recoupments.
  • May supervise and/or direct the work of others.
  • Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and two (2) years of relevant legal experience. 
  • Or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must possess strong writing skills and analytical skills.
  • Experience in Juvenile Justice and Advocacy.
  • Experience with employment law, worker’s compensation, and contract review.
